Scientists at Stanford University have announced a quicker way to detect cancer – by using a blood test.
The blood tests identifies any cancer-related molecules present in the blood in a less invasive way than methods currently used. Although the method is initially aimed at blood cancer – leukaemia – it is expected that it will be of use for solid cancers in time.
More Effective Cancer Treatment
The other benefit of this method is that it will help to monitor treatment of tumours. At the moment nothing is known about how a tumour is responding to a particular treatment method. This method will give detailed information about how the tumour is responding, and allow changes in treatment to make it more effective.
