10% of people admitted to hospitals in the UK suffer some sort of harm. These are the figures given to the House of Commons Health Committee.
A list of mistakes has been drawn up and these include;
- being given the wrong operation
- being given the wrong drug
- surgical instruments being left in the body
- allowing patients to fall out of bed
The number of deaths resulting from hospital mistakes is estimated to be around 40,000 a year. YES – that’s 40,000! On top of this, around 5000 a year die from superbug infections.
The message is clear – stay out of hospital unless you absolutely have to.
