In a study, redheads. – defined as those with the MC1R gene – were twice as likely to avoid going to the dentist. because of the pain involved.
In a previous study it was found that redheads required more dentists’ anaesthtic to dull pain.
The study recommended that dentists pay particular care to the needs of their red-headed patients.

This is not the first time I have heard of a link between redheads and lower pain threshholds, but that assumption pales in the light of having given birth twice, at home, with NO meds….possibly redheads aren’t pain light weights after all?
Hi Jane
I was with a redhead when I read the story. He said he needed less anaesthetic when he went to the dentist!
Just goes to show that in spite of study results, we are all individuals! It may also be that not all redheads have the relevant gene; or, indeed, it may be that the increased pain experience in some redheads is the result of more than one gene.
Hope the two kids are little angels
