The first phase of the swine flu pandemic has passed. UK Government figures put numbers of cases at 30,000. This is a great reduction from 110,000 last week.
No cause for complacency though – a resurgence in cases in Britain is likely during Autumn/Winter. This would mirror the surge occurring in Mexico and Latin America right now.
So, at the times the schools return we could easily see cases rising again.
At least there are no signs of swine flu virus mutating into a more deadly strain.
12% of deaths are from people who were previously healthy. The other 88% of those who died had underlying conditions – most of these severe illnesses.
So we can all breathe a sigh of relief – for now. In 1-2 months we will see if the anticipated resurgence happens.
