It has been found that liposuction – fat-sucking – results can be only temporary, according to a recent study.

The fat comes back after around a year. However, it comes back to different places.

In 2010 over 200,000 liposuctions were carried out in the USA.

In the study, 32 were women were divided into 2 groups. They were aged between 18 and 50.

All the women agreed to change habits – such as exercise and their diet. Half had liposuction: half did not.

After a year there was no significant difference in body fat between the two groups.

The results need to be confirmed with more studies: but it makes you think, doesn’t it?

The reasons are several fold.

Firstly there tends to be more snacks around the home (women put on an average of 2½ stone). And men tend to choose to snack on high-fat foods.

Secondly, doting husbands and partners nurture their loved ones by taking them out to eat more often – and there lies temptation.

Clothing shops should be happy – men have to buy new clothes as they cannot fit into the old ones.

After the birth, a third of men choose to diet alongside their partners.

It’s not all the fault of the baby though; quite a few of the men questioned admitted to drinking more beer during the pregnancy!

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has said that maintaining a healthy weight is a very effective way to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

The only more effective way to avoid cancer is for a smoker to give up smoking.

Professor Martin Wiseman , WCRF advisor, said that obesity increased the chance of developing cancer of the breast, bowel, oesophagus, kidney, pancreas, womb and gall bladder.

The key is to reduce BMI (Body Mass Index) to less than 25, but more than 18.5. BMI is measured by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by their height in metres squared.

Low Public Awareness

The WCRF was particularly concerned to raise the profile of the message that ‘obesity increases cancer risk’, saying that only 40% of people were aware of this. During Cancer Prevention Week they would be highlighting this fact.

Andrea Sachs in Time Magazine looked earlier this year at the latest books on weight loss diets to hit the book stands. Is one of them the new South Beach Diet?

In fact, more than looking at the diets, she actually tried each of the diets out for a week – now that’s devotion to journalism!

The 4 Weight Loss Diets

The four contenders were:

Joy’s Life Diet

The Flat Belly Diet

The Engine 2 Diet, and

The Complete Beck Diet for Life

The journalists’ conclusions?

FIRST PLACE: The Complete Beck Diet for Life – because it is
easiest to remember; basically because you can eat anything you
like – just limit the amount.

LAST PLACE: The Engine 2 Diet – a tough vegan diet from a Texas
triathlete, which forbids dairy, meat, and even oils, apparently.

If you want to lose weight – maybe one of these will appeal to you.
If you want to see a little more detail:
