This may be a false economy.

Organic food consistently has lower levels of pesticide residues than does non-organic. The amounts of these residues may be relatively small, but their effects can certainly be damaging when they build up.

Be on the safe side; but keep buying as much organic food as possible.

Now we have a good-news story about organic food – this time from the a shop serving the opposite end of the income spectrum.

Low-price supermarket Asda – owned by USA’s Walmart – reports that organic veg and fruit sales are up 8% on last year.

A spokesman at Asda said: “We don’t believe that in tough economic times people abandon their beliefs and principles.” (Aah – sweet!)

Anyway, organic sales are up – so that’s good.

Free Range Egg Sales Up Too

Asda are also seeing free range egg sales grow at the expense of ordinary eggs. That’s good too, as the level of beneficial omega 3 fat in free range eggs is higher.
